Vietnam 2006
Hue, Vietnam ~ Understanding Vietnam
Special thanks to Dr. David Biggs, UCR's Assistant Professor of History in the History department, for leading the 2006 Summer Travel Study program in Hue, Vietnam, along with his beautiful family. Additional appreciation is extended to the Administrative Staff at Hue University College of Foreign Languages, noting Rector Phurớc, Dr. Chị Mỹ (Head of the Vietnamese Studies Section), Ms. Kim Dung for assisting with student visas, Chị Hương for helping with the language component of the program, and Mr. Huy, the logistics person in the Department of Vietnamese Studies who is largely responsible for organizing the program with HUCFL. Students enjoyed their five-week residence at the Thanh Noi Hotel where tropical fruits were served at breakfast and the pool provided welcome relief from the heat.
Courses: The Vietnam Wars and a Directed Studies class
Excursions: The lovely town of Hoi An, the beautiful beaches of Danang/China Beach, ninth century Cham ruins, the imperial citadel in Hue, the former demilitarized zone, and the many lovely locations in Hue, which is located on the scenic Perfume River. Optional tours were made to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
