Madrid, Spain ~ Appreciating Spain, Past & Present
Special thanks to Dr. James Parr, UCR's Professor of Spanish in the Hispanic Studies department, for leading the 2006 Summer Travel Study program in Madrid, Spain, along with his wife, Dr. Patricia Parr. Additional appreciation is extended to the Director of the Colegio Mayor, Javier Fuertes and his wife, for hosting the academic offerings of the program at the Colegio Mayor Santo Tomas de Aquino, and to Ms. Pilar Piñon for opening the library facilities to our students at the Instituto Internacional. Students resided at the Colegio Mayor Santo Tomas de Aquino, which offered wonderful accommodations, meals, and amenitites.
Courses: Introduction to Spanish Culture and Civilization and a Directed Studies class
Excursions: Toledo, Segovia, Castile, Pedraza, El Escorial (the unique palace built by Philip II), El Prado, Reina Sofía, and Sorolla museums, Biblioteca Nacional, el Palacio Real, Real Academia Española, Roman ruins, prehistoric cave of Altamira, and the Museo Arqueológico, among many other beautiful historical landmarks in and around the City of Madrid.
